18 Jan Record number of Oxbridge offers for second cohort of NCS students
In only its third year since opening in September 2014, the second cohort of Year 13 students at Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre (The NCS) have secured a hugely impressive nine offers from Oxbridge. This further cements our position as one of the best sixth forms in East London, improving the prospects and social mobility for the students within our community.
After celebrating the best set of A level results for a Newham Sixth Form in its first year in August 2016, this comes as further confirmation of the outstanding provision and high quality education, preparation and support that students at The NCS receive. The NCS’ weekly Oxbridge Supervision sessions have thoroughly prepared students for the Oxbridge entrance examinations and the competitive interview process, resulting in this exceptional achievement. Additionally, staff and students at The NCS are waiting to hear whether one of our students has secured a place at MIT (an Ivy League US university) following her impressive 5As at AS level and the award of the Harvard Book Prize for ‘Outstanding Academic Achievement.’
Mr Ismail, Principal of the NCS commented:
“To secure nine Oxbridge offers in only our second A level year is a fantastic accomplishment and one that we all take great pride in. Students come to us with dreams and ambitions and our job is to help them realise this so they can go out into the world and make a real difference, realising our core vision for them which is to ‘inspire others’. We want our students to be agents of change who challenge the status quo and what better place than Oxbridge to engage in deep intellectual thinking on some of the greatest issues of our time.”

Monalisa Saha who joined us from Little Ilford and has an offer to study History & English at Oxford said:
“I joined the NCS wanting to study at a Russell Group university, so now looking forward to attending one of the best universities in the world, let alone the country... feels phenomenal! Applying to Oxbridge is intense, it's hard. The Oxbridge tutorials provided by the NCS were a huge help - they elevated my thinking to levels fitting an Oxbridge student and generally prepared me for life out of A Levels. By all means, this offer is the product of both my hard work and all the support I was given. I am happy and grateful and ready!”
Subatheena Vimalanthan has secured an offer to study Medicine at Cambridge University and commented:
“From adding fuel to my interest in medicine through the elevated teaching to the support given during the application for UCAS and preparing for interviews, I can hands down say my offer was due to the NCS. I joined the NCS thinking it would be an excellent learning environment after coming to the open days and I definitely wasn't proven wrong!”
Abdul Musaddik, joined The NCS because of his aspirations to study law knowing that expert help and opportunities would be provided for him. He has secured an offer to read Law at St John’s College Oxford and said:
“The offer from Oxford came as a huge shock, and before I came to The NCS I didn't even think it was possible. But it all boils down to working hard and getting the best out of every opportunity. My teachers at The NCS have been invaluable, and with their help I hope I can meet Oxford's entry requirements and study Law at one of the best universities in the world.”
Arif Uddin, who has an offer to study Mathematics at Cambridge said:
“The process of applying was incredibly intense and required absolute dedication but fortunately for me, the support I had available throughout the entirety of it was fantastic. In preparation I had weekly Oxbridge sessions allowing me to tackle a new set of problems of set themes in a tutorial style setting and even had four mock interviews, each of which allowed me to develop my abstract thinking and my ability to see a problem from a different perspective. These interviews were invaluable and not only prepped me for my interview, but developed me into a stronger mathematician in general.”
The NCS was established to educate the most able students from Newham and surrounding boroughs; providing them with exceptional academic teaching and unmatched enrichment opportunities, all within a supportive and highly scholarly environment. The NCS’ goal is simple, to enable our students to succeed at the highest levels and to attend the most competitive universities in the UK and abroad so they are able to become the future leaders of tomorrow.
Last academic year saw the first cohort of students secure exceptional A level results, attaining higher grades than many of the local grammar schools with 77% A*/B and 96% A*/C. The ALPS T score also places NCS in the top 1% of all schools nationally for value added which demonstrates the high quality teaching that takes place every day.
An impressive 85% of students in 2016 also secured offers from a Russell Group University with many going on to study medicine, dentistry or subjects allied to science and maths at university. The NCS was judged to be ‘Outstanding’ in every category by Ofsted, further confirming the exceptional provision that the NCS has become widely known for in such a short period of time.
